Porsche 911 E 1969 – Exceptional flatness, the wild spirit of the 80s
You’re not born a legend. You become one.
This 1969 Porsche 911 E was born in the pure Stuttgart tradition: a flat-six engine with mechanical fuel injection, slim lines and feline agility. But in 1989, it took a bold turn. A passionate owner decided to dress it in an all-metal Flatnose kit, official Porsche, paying homage to the legendary 935 racing cars. The fenders widen, the silhouette becomes more muscular, and the soft elegance of the sixties becomes a manifesto of power in late 80’s style.
Inside, bucket seats, sport harnesses and three-body wheels complete this radical transformation: the car is no longer a pretender. It assumes its road-going DNA, born to carve out its line on racetracks or alpine switchbacks.
🔧 Anecdote: During a classic car rally in 1994, a steward stopped it, convinced it was a factory 935 Turbo. The hood had to be opened to prove that it was indeed… a 911 E transformed with respect, passion, and a hint of irreverence.
It’s neither quite classic, nor quite outlaw. It’s unique, lively and full of character.
📖 Anecdote: the mistake that made a purist smile
It was 1994, at a gathering of enthusiasts in Dijon-Prenois. The 911 arrives in the paddock area, rumbling, poised, feline. A Porsche purist, crested jacket and Heuer chronograph on his wrist, approaches curiously, turns around, frowns.
He whispers:
– “A factory 935, here?!”
The owner smiles, opens the engine bay: an original 1969 2.0 flat-six sits there, quietly. Silence. Then a burst of laughter.
– “It’s not a real 935… but it looks good.”
Since that day, everyone in the club has nicknamed her “the little fake real one”. A nod to its racing looks and 911 E soul.
