• Context: General de Gaulle and his wife Yvonne were en route to the Villacoublay Air Base to catch a flight to Saint-Dizier, then on to their residence in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises.​
• The Convoy: Two unmarked Citroën DS 19s, escorted by two motorcyclists, carried the presidential couple and their entourage.​
• The Attack: A twelve-man commando from the OAS (Secret Army Organization) ambushed the convoy, opening fire with automatic weapons and blowing out the DS’s front tires.

Despite the flat tires, the DS continued thanks to its hydropneumatic suspension. The driver, Francis Marroux, accelerated and reached the base safely. The attack boosted General de Gaulle’s popularity. Commando leader Jean Bastien-Thiry was later arrested and executed in 1963.​
